Emergency response teams in Labasa are now relocating people, whose homes were partially or completely destroyed by Hurricane Tomas and took shelter in evacuation centers.
These people are now being relocated to ensure schools in Labasa can resume classes from tomorrow.
Commissioner Northern Colonel Inia Seruiratu said Red Cross is providing temporary shelters as evacuees are now moving back to their homes.
He said they are also trying to establish, the total number of people still taking shelter at other evacuation centers in the Northern division.
Col. Seruiratu also confirms that they expect to carry out an arial survey of Cikobia and other islands today and they expect to deploy vessels to Cikobia by tomorrow.
The Commissioner Northern stressed that the extent of damage sustained to agriculture, including, sugar cane and rice farms will take time to assess.
He said they have been given a two week time frame to complete thorough damage assessments before the true extent of damages can be ascertained.
Col. Seruiratu said the initial teams being deployed are to ascertain what sort of immediate assistance people would require such as food, shelter and water before the second phase of the rehabilitation efforts are initiated.
