An 18-month-old baby of Vio Island, Lautoka became the country’s latest drowning victim.
Police say the baby who was at home with his mother was left in the sitting room while she went to her room.
According to Police when she came back she noticed the 2-year-old missing.
She ran outside and noticed the baby floating in the nearby sea.
With the assistance of her husband the child was conveyed to the Lautoka hospital however was pronounced dead on arrival.
With this unfortunate incident the drowning toll currently stands at 65 compared to 37 for the same period last year.
At this particular time when the country faces uncertainty with the weather situation parents and guardians are once again being advised to keep a close eye on children as they will become inquisitive and venture outdoors.
