The International Association of Athletics Federations General Secretary, Essar Gabriel has recognized Albert Miller as President of Athletics Fiji.
In a letter to Miller, IAAF said it has received numerous correspondences regarding allegations made against members of the athletics family in Fiji and also cases of criminal charges, impersonation and assault.
The IAAF said to Miller in the letter that as Miller’s term of office will expire on the 6th of June this year, he will have to convene an Annual General Meeting in compliance with the 2008 constitution of Athletics Fiji.
Gabriel said prior to that, all court cases, criminal charges and other ongoing litigations should be withdrawn and in addition all suspensions of office bearers and other members of Athletics Fiji should be dropped so that all stakeholders are allowed to take part in the AGM.
Gabriel also said that one of the objectives of the IAAF is to encourage the participation in Athletics at all levels throughout the world regardless of age, gender or race.
The IAAF General Secretary said Athletics Fiji being affiliated to the IAAF is bound to adhere to this objective and to the code of ethics.
Meanwhile Miller has confirmed that they will have their AGM on the 7th of next month.
He said that he is happy after receiving the letter from the IAAF stating they still recognise him as Athletics Fiji President.
Miller said they can’t withdraw some cases.
Miller added that he is not sure if he will be re-elected again as President but he will continue to support Athletics Fiji as it is part of his life.
