The United Front for a Democratic Fiji has started off with their campaign to get signatures from people to reject the draft constitution and their representatives say they will either give the petition to the President or the Prime Minister.
Speaking from Sigatoka village, Doctor Tupeni Baba said they will go around the country with their group which today included Ro Teimumu Kepa, Doctor Baba, Mahendra Chaudhry, Raman Pratap Singh, Laisenia Qarase and Bill Gavoka.
Doctor Baba said they are aiming to get more than 300,000 signatures.
Doctor Baba also said the United Front representatives should not be just branded as politicians of the past.
He also called for time to be given for a debate on the draft constitution as Doctor Baba claimed that their team was not given time in the Cuvu consultation session last night.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said ample time is being given to people in the sessions.
Fijivillage was at the Cuvu session and more than two hours were given for questions from the people.
The session finished at midnight.
Meanwhile, Sayed-Khaiyum said the government is focused on getting the people’s submissions, get a new constitution for Fiji and then prepare for the elections by September next year.
He also said the politicians of the past need to look at the necessary changes being made.
