Unionists who are also holding positions in the political parties or are intending to start a party are saying nothing today when asked whether they will resign in order to register the party under the new Registration of Political Parties Decree.
They are still waiting to see the actual decree which is still being printed.
Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh, who is backing the formation of the political party by the Fiji Trades Union Congress, said he cannot say anything at this stage.
Fijivillage also raised the questions being asked on whether Singh sought the approval of all the FPSA members before deciding to form or back a political party.
Singh said the decision was taken by the members of the union’s National Council as it is difficult for him to meet all the members and they cannot have an AGM all the time.
Fiji Trades Union Congress General Secretary Felix Anthony is still adamant that unionists should not be stopped from forming political parties.
Anthony said they should not be stopped from taking part in politics.
