Police are questioning the motive as to why a Suva lawyer chose to raise an issue about his client in the overseas media rather than following procedures available to them to deal with their complaint.
Chief Operations Officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu said the issue highlighted by lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma about his client allegedly being denied medical treatment has no foundation.
He said to date Police have not received any reports from Vakaloloma or his client about this issue.
ACP Tudravu said Vakaloloma is more than welcome to lodge an official complaint with the Police, giving his assurances that the matter will be looked into.
Vakaloloma’s client is accused of being involved with five prison escapees who police believe committed the robbery.
In an interview with Radio NZ, Vakaloloma alleges that his client was kicked by police when he was arrested and has complained that he was burnt with hot water.
He said there is still no medical examination.
