The Fiji Fuel Retailers Association is expected to hand in submissions to the Commerce Commission soon requesting government to increase the markup they are permitted to add on the sale of fuel.
With service stations switching to self service from next Wednesday, Association President Baljeet Singh had earlier said that they have asked Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to remove price control from retail fuel price.
However, he said they have not received any response so far.
Singh said the price control and increasing costs have made it impossible for them to make a reasonable profit.
He added they made submissions last year to Prices and Incomes board prior to the submission made in 1998 for removal of price control on retail fuel prices, but they were not able to get anything on that.
Meanwhile, Commerce Commission Chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy said the commission will make a comment after receiving the submissions from the association.
The Commerce Commission and Fuel Retailers Association are expected to meet on Monday.
