Imagination Television Fiji Limited spent more than $7.6 million in Fiji during the shooting of a television series Beauty and the Geek which was broadcasted on Network Seven in Australia last year.
Film Fiji’s Acting CEO, Florence Swamy said the television company spent over $2.7 million to buy goods and services locally.
She said the television company was then entitled to receive 47 percent tax rebate on its total expenditure in Fiji which is more than $3.6 million.
Swamy said the Film Tax Rebate has been increased from 35 per cent to 47 per cent and this will increase Fiji's competitiveness as a film-making destination.
Swamy said the production company engaged the services of 100 locals during the shoot and its pre and post production and has also utilized technicians, students and technical aid facilities at the Film Making school at the Fiji National University and similar other local institutions.
Meanwhile, Imagination Television Fiji Limited’s Creative Director, Darryl Mc Ewen says Fiji has the best location and the best rebate in the World.
He said it was a successful show in Australia where the average audience was around 1.3 million people.
Attorney General and Minister for Industry and Trade, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum handed over the $3.6 million tax rebate cheque to Mc-Ewen yesterday.
