Termite swarming is common around this time of the year and people in the Western Division have been urged not get alarmed if they see termites swarming near their homes.
Bio security Authority of Fiji said most affected termite areas in Lautoka are Tomuka, Kashmir, Field 40, Naikabula, Saru and part of Waiyavi and people have been asked to close all windows and doors from 6.30pm to 8pm.
Chief Executive Officer Elvis Silvestrini said that people should light small fires in a controlled area outside their homes and switch off all lights outside their homes and use minimal lighting inside adding that termites are attracted to lights.
He said that the sight of swarming termites outside or inside homes can be very alarming however people should not panic adding that they have called on residents to light small fires in a controlled area outside their homes so the termites get attracted to it and burn themselves in the fire.
