Twin sisters Burnice and Gillian Shaw were among the proud 1,285 students who graduated from the University of the South Pacific today.
Older twin Burnice said today is a day to celebrate for the Shaw family of Lautoka as it was a struggle for the sisters to have reached this milestone.
She said their dad was only a pastor and the family of 4 survived mainly on the wages of their mother who worked as a Secretary.
The sisters finished secondary school at Natabua High and when they failed to get a scholarship they gave up their dream of tertiary education.
Burnice said their brother who had joined the British Army then was however diligent about putting them through USP, and for 3 long years he paid for both their fees as private students.
22 year old Burnice said it was an overwhelming feeling as she tried on her graduation cap this morning.
