Hundreds of widows will be trained over the next few years on adequate skills that will enable them to look after themselves and not necessarily rely on government for assistance.
This is after the Lifebread International signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation which will see the establishment of a home and a multipurpose training centre for widows in Fiji.
Lifebread Internatiional director Pastor Dr Raymond Moti said they are starting off with 10 units in Teidamu Hill, Lautoka but they are planning to expand this in the next few years.
Dr Moti added the training will be about two years.
The training includes personal developments and skills training.
Dr Moti also saidthey are looking to raise one million dollars with the assistance of their international partners.
About 30 widows between the ages of 30 to 55 will start off with the program if they meet the criteria which will be monitored by the Ministry of women but the criteria is yet to be finalized.
The centre is expected to open at the end of this year.
