The Fiji Corrections Service has refuted reports that 27 year old serving prisoner, Iowane Benedito has not been allowed visitations by the family.
In response to questions sent by Fijivillage, the Corrections Service said Benedito is being allowed visitations like any other inmate but he has not been visited.
However Benedito's mother, Viriseini Vakarau told Fijivillage that she and her daughter went to Korovou to visit her son in March, but was told that Benedito was transferred to Naboro, where she was stopped.
She checked again in May with the Officer in Charge and was told she cannot visit Benedito.
Vakarau said she has only spoken to her son on the phone.
Benedito is facing a prison sentence for escaping from the Suva Corrections Center on the 18th November last year.
Meanwhile Vakarau is expected to lodge an official police complaint this Friday, against the members of the arresting team who allegedly assaulted her son.
She earlier said that two options that her family is looking at include police to investigate the members of the arresting team and take them to task, and to find legal avenues through a lawyer to hold the people involved accountable in court.
Vakarau earlier confirmed that her son was one of the handcuffed men who was assaulted by the arresting team which included police officers.
Benedito is facing a prison term for escaping from the Suva Corrections Centre in November last year.
