The village of Narikoso, Ono, Kadavu is the next in Fiji to relocate as they are threatened by flooding, as an effect of rising sea levels due to climate change.
According to villager Mereani Osea, flooding occurs every high tide often forcing villagers out of their homes.
Osea shared that these families live close to the beach and often seek shelter at the village community hall as water would enter their homes.
The sea bags she said that were put up as a barrier offers little protection now, as the water surges right through the village making it difficult for them to cope.
Meanwhile, a new village site has been identified, with more than 50 families to start moving from this year.
