$78,000 has been spent so far by the Water Authority of Fiji in replacing the metal lids of manholes stolen by scrap metal thieves.
According to WAF spokesperson Fulori Turaga these manhole’s when left un-covered may cause injuries for members of the public if they accidently fall in.
So far according to Turaga 140 manhole lids have since been re-placed with the West reporting the highest number of theft over the past six months.
Turaga added with the police taking tough action on scrap metal dealers WAF looks forward to the problem being controlled.
