A few hours after a 3-year-old girl was reported missing from her Nadi home yesterday, a villager discovered her body floating in a river nearby.
According to police this was after a search was conducted when her father raised the alarm after he noticed her missing around 6pm.
She was taken to the Nadi hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police are now awaiting a post mortem report as investigations continue.
Out of the 57 cases of drowning this year, 16 are children under the age of 10.
