Increasing rural employment and enhancing pineapple exports from Vanua Levu is being targeted by Balthan Western Limited after Government gave them a grant of $95,817.
According to Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum the grants under the National Export Strategy will assist local companies to develop new export products, comply with international standards, and expand into new markets.
Another recipient South Sea Slipway Limited said that their grant of $100,272 will be used to purchase a computerised machine for the company's slipway at Walu Bay.
The machine they add will encourage more vessels to use the port of Suva for repairs rather than South East Asian ports.
Amongst the other six Fijian companies that received a Government grant totaling $1 million are Bula Island Food Supplies, Food Processors (Fiji) Limited, Suva, Viti Foods Limited and Pacific Fishing Company Ltd, Levuka.
