The Fiji Australia Business Council welcomes the decision by the Australian Government to remove the Travel Sanctions following the recent visit by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop.
Fiji Australia Business Council in-coming president Viliame Leqa said this is great news not only for members of the Council but also for the whole Fiji.
He said the lifting of travel restrictions will raise trade and investment relations between the two countries but will also open up employment opportunities.
He says during Julie Bishop’s recent visit an issue discussed with the Council was the Pacific Seasonal Workers Scheme that will allow those in the region to work in the Horticulture sector in Australia.
Meanwhile the Pacific Seasonal Workers Scheme will allow workers to work in Australia for seven months in a year.
The Australian Government earlier stated that it understands the importance of labour mobility to many economies in the Pacific and the desire of Pacific island states to pursue greater access to the Australian unskilled and semiskilled labour market.
