Tadra Kahani messages were loud and clear - August 19

The messages were portrayed loud and clear by the more than 2,000 students.

This is the comment made by Fernando Lobendahn who was one of the three judges in the Tadra Kahani with Connect last night.

Fernando Lobendahn who is the Fiji TV team leader of group broadcast operation said the themes that were chosen by the schools had an effect on people.

Dilkusha Methodist High School was crowned the new winners of the Tadra Kahani in the Senior Division last night.

In the Junior Division, Rishikul Primary School walked away as the new champion.

Unbelievable talents shown at Tadra Kahani - August 19

All 16 schools were winners.

This is what the judges of the 2011 Tadra Kahani thought after watching the performances last night.

The more than 2,000 students tore the stage apart and blew the judges and the audience away when they took centre stage.

A former participant of Tadra Kahani and now owner of Vou dance group Sachiko Miller said she was just amazed at the talents that were showcased by students.

Dilkusha Methodist High School win 2011 Tadra Kahani - August 19

The Tadra Kahani with Connect Junior and Senior Division trophies have both gone to schools located along the Nasinu/Nausori corridor.

With their theme "Environmental Exploitation" and first timers to the dream story stage show, Dilkusha Methodist High School were crowned the new winners of the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect in the Senior Division last night.

Not only were they overall winners, Dilkusha Methodist High School also scooped the awards for the Best Concept Award, Best Set Design and Best Audience Response.

Teacher Kavita Sharan said it was through dedication and perseverance that contributed to the win.

Lomary Secondary were the first runner up while Suva Grammar school was second runner up.

In the Junior Division, Rishikul Primary School walked away as the new champion.

Class Eight students Janette Kumar and Priyanka Nambiar said that they were shocked with the announcement.

Meanwhile, International School Suva were awarded the Best Design Backdrop, Best Costume, Hair and Makeup and Best Writing while the Choreography Award went to Saint Marcellin Primary and Best Soundtrack Award went to Saint Agnes Primary School.

Over 2000 students to convey message - August 18

In less than two hours time, months of preparation by more than 2,000 students will take center stage conveying their messages in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

With themes like peer pressure, parental negligence, caring for our environment, every child has only one childhood and the dangers of social networking sites, it will take the 16 schools to convince three judges through music and choreographed dance that they should be crowned champions.

Hours remain for biggest dream story stage show - August 18

With close to five hours remaining for the biggest dream story stage show to kick off this afternoon, the over 2,000 students taking part are ready to convey their messages after months of preparations.

Tadra Kahani defending champs ready to go - August 18

Let the voices of the leaders of tomorrow be heard as they prepare to take part in one of the biggest international style school stage shows in the South Pacific tonight.

With themes like peer pressure, parental negligence, caring for our environment, every child has only one childhood and the dangers of social networking sites, more than 2,000 students will perform tonight in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with connect.

And the defending champions in the Junior Division, Intgernational School Suva said success lies not in being the best but in doing your best in tonight’s performance.

Student rep Ella Sinclair said they are ready for tonight.

Meanwhile, defending champions in the Senior Division, Lomary Secondary School’s Claude Crocker said "bring it on".

Tadra Kahani sets platform for students - August 17

Tadra Kahani with Connect is not only about music and dance, it provides a platform for students to convey a message they are passionate about.

That is the view of Manager Connect Sitiveni Tawake.

Tawake said that while some may think otherwise of the event, Connect’s support towards the show in the past 4 years, is an indication of how it invests in projects that develop the students.

Students ready to showcase talent at Tadra Kahani - August 17

The stage is set, and the students are ready.

Many months of preparations will be showcased tomorrow as our students take the stage to express their views through music and choreographed dance at the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

Total Event Company Manager Loretta Jackson said Tadra Kahani is not like any other local show in Fiji.

Connect General Manager David Eyre said the dream story stage show is another avenue students can receive important messages.

Lomary to focus on school dropouts - August 17

School dropouts can still excel in life through their talents.

This is what defending champion of the Tadra Kahani Senior Division, Lomary Secondary School will portray at the Vodafone Arena tomorrow night.

Student rep Maria Vua believes that not doing well in school should not be used as an excuse as they have other talents that they can use.

According to latest statistics from the Education Ministry, 15% of Fiji’s children do not survive the full eight years of their primary education while an average of about 74.9% of those who start secondary education in Fiji get to Form Six and an even lesser percentage make it to Form Seven.

Pregnant young girls should be accepted in our communities, despite their failures.

Class Seven student Melini Navunisaravi who will be playing the part of a young pregnant girl in their performance at the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect said even though these girls make the wrong decisions, they still have a chance to better their lives through learning.

According to the Health Ministry, from 2004 to 2009 the daily average pregnancy rate of girls below the age of 19 is three girls per day with over 7,000 cases of girls between 16 to 19 years falling pregnant over the six year period.

Saint Marcellin Primary against abuse - August 16

This is the plea from a Class Seven student of Saint Marcellin Primary School, Melini Navunisaravi, who will be playing the part of a young pregnant girl in their performance at the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

For Rame Lusi Vasukiwai, it’s conveying the theme to the audience that is a challenge as he wants it to be a memorable one for him and his final year classmates.

Peer pressure main issue for John Wesley - August 14

Preparing for the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect has taught the students of John Wesley Primary School teamwork and how to dance.

John Wesley Class Eight student Vatima Tatuvivei said with the theme, "Peer Pressure - Your Choice, Your Future", he is enjoying every bit of their preparations.

The Education Ministry has confirmed from the analysis of school records in 2010 that there were 21 cases of alcohol consumption, 72 cigarette smoking cases, 15 cases of marijuana smoking and 38 sex related offences in primary schools.

Saint Thomas High School lobby for halting deforestation - August 11

More needs to be done to sustain the forests that we have and steps should be taken now to stop illegal logging and deforestation.

That’s the call from students of Saint Thomas High School in Lautoka who will be performing in next Thursday’s Tadra Kahani with Connect.

Student rep Esther Trill said while the government successfully accomplished its one million tree planting campaign, more awareness is needed.

Responding to the call by Saint Thomas High School, Permanent Secretary for Fisheries and Forest Commander Viliame Naupoto said he agreed with the students and the government is taking the necessary steps.

Apart from raising awareness on the rising cases of child abuse in the country, students of St Agnes Primary School will use the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect to build their self esteem.

The 80-member team will be portraying their theme, "Child abuse: every child has a story."

Class Eight students Olly Daugunu and Miriama Gavidi said the students are psyched up for the event.

Falling into peer pressure and the consumption of alcohol and drugs is a contributing factor to teenage pregnancy in Fiji.

St Marcellin Primary School teacher Jason Konrote said with their theme "Child within a Child" they will be pleading at the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect next week for those pregnant young girls to be accepted in our community, despite their failure.

St Marcellin Primary to show "A Child within a Child" - August 09

Teenage pregnancy is an issue that is prevalent among young girls in Fiji today.

That is the main reason why St Marcellin Primary School is addressing their topic "A Child within a Child" at next week’s 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

Choreographer Jason Konrote said they feel that the topic is relevant and it portrays how a young girl gets pregnant and how the community she lives in, views her.

According to the Health Ministry from 2004 to 2009 the daily average pregnancy rate of girls below the age of 19 is 3 girls per day.

A total of 7,705 cases of girls between the ages of 16 to 19 were pregnant over the six year period and from this, 71 cases involved girls at the age of 15 years.

RSMS confident to stamp their mark - August 09

Although they are newcomers, students of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School are confident of stamping their mark in next week’s 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

The 80-member team from RSMS will be conveying their theme "Uniting Fiji through Volunteerism".

Student representative Jone Fotofili said have been holding constant rehearsals and are looking forward to the challenges from the other schools.

This year also marks the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers.

Rishikul Primary to elaborate on natural disasters - August 06

Millions of dollars in damages is incurred in Fiji through natural disasters.

A major contributing factor to this large sum is due to people’s ignorance not taking disaster warnings or taking the precautionary measures required.

This message of ignorance will be portrayed by the students of Rishikul Primary School in this year’s Tadra Kahani 2011 with Connect.

Liaison teacher Selai Vosalotaki said they chose the topic after seeing a trend where young people mostly lose their lives during natural disasters.

She said students should adhere to the warnings issued by authorities.

Most people do not take the natural disasters warning seriously.

That is the view from Rishikul Primary School as they prepare to perform at the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

With their theme "Act now or face the consequences", class 8 student Priyanka Nambiar said that people in Fiji should learn from what transpired in Samoa and Japan where peoples’ lives were lost through natural disasters.

She said the trend in Fiji is when there is a Tsunami warning issued, people are seen near sea walls.

Making wise decisions.

That’s the message students of Tacirua Primary School will be out to portray in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect.

Class 8 student Selina Nailevu said that "Students drop out of school because of the wrong decisions they make."

Over the past few years, Police have raised serious concern about glue sniffing, smoking and truancy.

This year 1,200 students from 16 schools will take part in Tadra Kahani.

Lack of support from home is the main reason why young people make the wrong decisions and fall into temptations.

That is the message from Iliesa Moceituba, a class 7 student of Tacirua Primary School as they prepare to portray their theme "Making Wise Decisions" in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect this month.

The Ministry of Education has confirmed that students as young as 10 years old are sniffing glue with most cases being reported from primary schools in the Suva-Nausori district.

The analysis of schools records in 2010 show that there were 21 cases of alcohol consumption, 72 cigarette smoking cases, 15 cases of marijuana smoking and 38 sex-related offences in primary schools.

1,200 students from 16 schools will take part in the Tadra Kahani to highlight issues that concern them.

Saint Agnes to bring attention to child abuse - August 02

The rise in child abuse cases in the country has prompted a primary school in Suva to join in the fight to raise awareness about this important national issue.

Students of Saint Agnes Primary School will be out to portray their theme "Child abuse, every child has a story" in the 2011 Tadra Kahani with Connect this month.

According to Police statistics, child neglect is the leading form of child abuse in the country with a total of 703 cases reported for the years 2001 to 2010.

Following the abuse cases, sexual abuse ranks as the second highest with a total of 626 cases reported while 458 cases have been reported for physical abuse in the past 10 years.

Class eight student Olly No’ora said there will be tough competition from other schools in Tadra Kahani but their main aim is to portray their message.

Year Two vocational student Filipe Noa said students who drop out of school still have the talent and skills to excel in life and it is through vocational schools that they can achieve this.

Students get ready for Tadra Kahani - July 26

It’s time again for the country’s students to share their messages through art, song and dance as less than a month remains for the 2011 Tadra Kahani.

A total of 16 schools will feature in this year’s Tadra Kahani as it was officially launched this morning with internet service provider company Connect as the official sponsor of the event.

Total Event Company Manager Loretta Jackson said as the dream story stage show marks its 16th year, over 100 schools have taken part since 1995.

Jackson said Tadra Kahani has been an effective platform for students to convey issues that they are passionate about.

Meanwhile, Connect General Manager David Eyre, who handed over a cheque of $30,000, said they support the development of the youth in the country through such initiatives.

At the moment, defending champion Lomary Secondary School, Saint Thomas High School, International School Suva, Suva Grammar School, Cathedral Secondary, Sila Central High, Dilkusha Methodist High School, Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna Memorial School and Marist Champagnat School are confirmed for the Senior Division.

In the Junior Division, defending champion International School Suva, John Wesley Primary School, Marcellin Primary School, International School Nadi, St Agnes Primary, Tacirua Primary and Rishikul Primary School will be taking part.

Tadra Kahani will be held on August 18th.
