6,000 dead from NCDs over a two year period
The average daily death rate of Non Communicable Diseases in Fiji is 2 people per day.

This is according to the 2010 to 2011 statistics compiled by CWM hospital which reports a total of 6,421 people have died just over this two-year period.

CWM Consultant Physician Dr. Shrish Acharya while revealing these statistics said one of the main problems in Fiji is that people do not have their regular health checkups.

According to Dr. Acharya in 1979 the top causes of death were stroke, Diabetes, Cancer and High Blood Pressure and this is the same today.

He added from January to April this year, 608 people have been admitted in relation to NCD.
