22 workers expected to be laid off due to shortage of cement
About 22 construction workers are expected to be laid off tomorrow due to the short supply of cement.

For over a week, cement is out of stock in many hardware outlets.

Deo Construction managing director Vimal Deo said his three major projects are on hold and they are now suffering losses.

According to Deo, they have no choice but to send their workers home as there is no indication on when the supply will normalize.

Chand Concrete Limited director Rodney Chand said the short supply has crippled their operations as they stopped production of concrete blocks four days ago.

According to Chand, they will also have to lay off some staff if the situation remains the same.

Meanwhile, Fiji Industries Limited general manager Mosese Waqavakatoga told Fijivillage that their mill has broken down which has caused the short supply.

He hopes supply will normalize by the weekend.
