Mere Nailatikau new Miss South Pacific
Merewalesi Nailatikau, Miss Fiji Islands is the new Miss South Pacific, ambassador of the South Pacific Region advocating the effects of global warming in the region.
Last night with the final round of questioning, Nailatikau proved the outright winner with her answer to this question: Considering that our pacific culture practices, smacking as a form of discipline, do you think it should be outlawed and why.
For the first time in 21 years the Miss South Pacific crown has finally made its way to Melanesia after being cherished and cradled by Polynesia through past winners, Samoa, the Cook Islands, American Samoa, New Zealand and Tonga.
Thanking God, her family, her fellow contestants and her country, Nailatikau stressed the importance of regional unity on issues of concern, especially climate change.
1st Runner Up went to Miss Cook Islands Engara Gosselin. 2nd runner up went to Miss Aoteroa New Zealand Paretaunu Randal, 3rd runner up went to Miss Solomon Islands Milicent Barty while 4th runner up went to Miss Samoa Tusisalea Pomele.
