While government is trying to relocate more than 100 people of Vunidogoloa village in Cakaudrove, it is also doing rehabilitation work on the new site.
They are currently living at Natewa Bay and are planning to move inland to get away from flooding which occurs frequently during bad weather conditions.
Provincial Administrator Savusavu Uraia Rainima said proper plans should be done as this is the first relocation to be done in Fiji due to the effects of climate change.
Rainima said the government has funded the project and it is targeting to start building new houses from the third week of July.
By the end of October, he says the 30 families will be settling well in the homes at the new location.
