$50,000 in new bank notes stolen
$50,000 of new Fiji design bank notes has been stolen from an ANZ Bank in Suva on Sunday according to police.

The missing money is made up of all new $100 designs, depicting the insect Cicada or Nanai and police investigations are underway.

The new currency is being found in circulation around the country.

The missing money was reported to Police on the 23rd of this month, when three of the new look $100 bills were used at three supermarkets in the Southern Division.

A requisition for the new design currencies was made to the country’s central bank and as such the money was escorted to the Suva bank to be kept at their vault.

Director CID Vakacegu Toduadua said they are trying to find out whether there was a security breach.
