2 more drowning cases
Two more people have drowned in separate incidents yesterday.

The first incident happened at around 4.30pm where a three year old girl who was out swimming with her brothers and sisters drowned in the Wainitogoru River in Navua.

When her father discovered her missing he jumped into the river in frantic search however found her floating in chest deep water. 

They then rushed the three year old girl to the Navua Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

In the second incident a 46-year-old farmer drowned while swimming in the Dreketi River yesterday afternoon.

The deceased was playing a game with his daughter and a friend by the river bank when the tragedy happened. 

The man’s body was recovered half an hour later and rushed to the Dreketi Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The drowning toll now stands at 70 compared to 43 for the same period last year.
