Farmer Conned, Loses Thousands

Farmer Conned, Loses Thousands
Navua police are questioning two men and their wives for allegedly conning a farmer and obtaining thousands of dollars from him in the pretext of arranging a girl for marriage.

It is alleged that the two told the 29-year-old farmer of Raiwaqa, Navua, that they have arranged a girl for him for marriage and allegedly obtained thousands of dollars from him.

According to police, the two men asked for a rental car, ducks, chickens, beer and cash to arrange his marriage in Nadi.

It is further alleged that when the complainant asked the two to talk to his wife to be, the two would call their wife and their wives would talk to them.

The wives would tell him that they love him and would marry him. Then at the end of the conversation, they would tell the farmer to send $300 or $500 to them through the two men (their husbands).

This continued for two weeks when a man who is a close relative of one of the suspects informed the farmer.

The poor farmer lost all his savings. They are expected to be charged later today.
