A steel Bailey bridge is expected to be built by next month at the Vatuwaqa Bridge along Fletcher Road.
Fiji Roads Authority bridge programme manager, Don Clifford said for motorists the temporary single lane bridge will now save them the inconvenience of taking detours since the closure of the Vatuwaqa bridge.
Clifford said the bailey bridge will have traffic lights to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
It will also have an added walkway for pedestrians to use.
Clifford added the temporary bridge will cater for large vehicles as well as buses with engineers assuring it will cope with the traffic flow in the area.
The temporary structure will remain until the new bridge is designed and built.
