Public Service reforms are not always about reducing staff numbers.
When asked by Fijivillage on what measures are being taken to reduce the size of the civil service, Public Service Commission (PSC) Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand said it is not about reducing the civil service number which currently stands at 27,129.
He said it’s about looking at other measures like corporatization and outsourcing amongst others adding they're looking at reforms in the water and sewerage department and government supplies.
The retirement age policy, which saw 2,044 civil servants go home earlier this year, was part of the Civil Service Reform.
