Where we can lead, we will lead. Where we can facilitate and encourage, we will facilitate and encourage. Where we can assist, we will assist. And where we need support, we will ask for it.
These are the words of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama while assuring delegates of the third Engaging with the Pacific meeting on Fiji’s full support as it offers its hand in partnership to Pacific Small Islands Developing States (PSIDS).
Fiji has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding on development cooperation with five PSIDS including Kiribati, Tuvalu, Solomon Islands, Republic of the Marshall Islands and Nauru.
Today will see bilateral discussions and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by the leaders.
This morning the leaders will have their retreat and signing of the communique.
This meeting is being held ahead of the Pacific Islands Leaders Forum which will be held in Cook Islands next week.
Fiji will not be part of that forum as it remains suspended from it.
Meanwhile, Cook Islands Foreign Ministry’s Danny Williams said it is clear that Fiji is on its path to democracy in 2014.
The meeting ends today.
