The government’s personnel costs for 2013 will be revealed next year as it continues its aim to lift the standard of the public service and also allocate increasing funds to capital expenditure.
Personnel costs for this year is projected at $594 million which is an increase of $27.2 million over the 2011 personnel costs.
The increase comes from the pay increments granted to civil servants this year.
Personnel costs comprise of the salaries and wages of civil servants which include established staff and government wage earners.
Civil servants received a 3% pay increase this year.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has already highlighted that a performance-based management system will be introduced for the civil service.
He said that individual civil servants will be assessed and beginning in 2013, they will be paid based on individual performance.
Commodore Bainimarama said at present, this is confined only to Permanent Secretaries but will now be extended to other categories of employees.
Details are likely to be revealed in the National Budget address tomorrow.
