People of Bua receives major boost
The people of Bua have received a major boost after the commencement of the bauxite mining operation.

Assistant Roko, Jale Sigarara said the mining in Nawailevu has provided income for the landowners amounting to about twenty thousand dollars yearly through land leases and three quarter of a million dollars through compensation.

He said that local workers are getting good salaries and they have been able to renovate their homes and save money for education.

Aurum Exploration Fiji Limited Mine Manager Vanuaca Basilio said that about $2 million in revenue is generated into the economy every month from bauxite mining in Nawailevu through various payments they make to government in carrying out the operations.

The bauxite mine currently has close to 150 permanent employees and 250 seasonal workers from around Fiji.

Bauxite is an aluminum ore and is the main source of aluminum.
