Agricultural officers conduct surveys on damage
Agricultural officers have been tasked this morning to carry out preliminary surveys on damages sustained by Cyclone Evan to the agriculture sector in the Western and Northern Divisions.

Director of Extension Division Uraia Waibuta said the survey will focus on damages sustained in the root crops and vegetables, large poultry and piggery farms and the export commodities in the Sigatoka valley.

Meanwhile, the Central Division teams are just waiting for the flood waters to recede before they begin their detailed surveys.

The Ministry’s immediate advice to farmers are to clear debris from their farms and salvage planting materials such as dalo tops or suckers and kumala cuttings and to begin planting as soon as it is practicable.
