Aust govt to provide $1.85M
The Australian government will provide 1.85 million Fiji dollars to assist in Fiji's response to Cyclone Evan.

Fijivillage has received confirmation that the Australian High Commission is working with DISMAC on the details of the assistance package.

The assistance will include a shipment of relief supplies which is expected to arrive later today.

The relief supplies will include a range of water containers, blankets, tarpaulins, family hygiene kits and shelter kits.

The aid package also includes $185,000 for use by the Fijian government for use in damage assessments and evacuations.

Meanwhile New Zealand will also assist with immediate relief efforts in Fiji.

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully said that New Zealand will make $50,000 immediately available as a first step for responding to specific requests.

Tarpaulins, water containers, generators and chainsaw packs are on the way to Fiji on commercial flights and a contribution of $170,000 to the Fiji Red Cross will help it to replenish supplies.

McCully said the Government is also looking at further funding for New Zealand based NGO's with supplies already in Fiji.
