Trains will soon be used as a new mode of public transportation in the West.
According to Minister for Public Utilities and Transport Colonel Timoci Natuva the commuter rail-road project along with the Fiji Sugar Corporation will cost $20 million.
Natuva said using the current FSC tram lines this initiative would lessen traffic jam during peak hours.
He added since most remote areas in the West have rail tracks running through their areas instead of roads ,this type of transportation will make travelling much easier for them.
Amongst those who have welcomed the idea is FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan saying they would invest millions over the next few years into the project.
Khans added as the railway lines are used during the crushing season and left idle for the remaining 6 months investing in this project will generate returns.
