Barring members could lead to alienation

The Citizens Constitutional Forum said the barring of members of the International Bar Association from entering Fiji could lead to further alienation of the interim government by the international community.

After confirmation that IBA's Program Lawyer Felica Johnston was not granted entry into Fiji under a directive by the interim government, Executive Director Reverand Akuila Yabaki said we must engage with such international bodies.

However, Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that the international community is aware that it is the prerogative of the government of the day to decide who is allowed or not allowed into the country.

Sayed-Khaiyum confirmed that no member of the International Bar Association is welcome in Fiji at this stage as their presence could jeopardize the constitutional cases currently before the courts.
