Movement in Lautoka restricted

Movement in Lautoka restricted
Movement into Lautoka City has been restricted.

Commissioner Western Colonel Joweli Cawaki said they have done this for the safety of people but can still see people loitering around at their own risk.

Colonel Cawaki said that most people living in the West have left it to the last minute and have been caught by surprise.

He said with the height of the Cyclone Evan it is very risky to send their teams out for search and rescue.

He said power has also been switched off throughout the Western Division for safety reasons.

Roof tops of five houses in Tavakubu settlement in Lautoka have been blown away by strong winds.

Resident Luisa Senibulu said she is still shocked at the devastating effect of Tropical Cyclone Evan.

She recalls that Evan is stronger than Hurricane Bebe which hit Fiji in 1972.

She said the residents are now staying with neighbors.
