22 evacuation centers are currently operational in the Northern Division as people prepare for tropical cyclone Evan.
Divisional Northern Planning Officer, Alipate Bola said that these centers are in Macuata which is currently accommodating 327 people while Cakaudrove they have yet to get the numbers.
According to Bola, he was driving around Labasa town a while ago and noticed most shops and houses have put up shutters.
Bola said that at the moment it is very windy with occasional rain.
Meanwhile, people living in Nagigi Labasa have started to feel strong winds and heavy rain.
Resident and school teacher Rajen Prasad said that they have opened up Nagigi Primary School as an evacuation centre.
Prasad said that residents are well prepared as shutters have been put up with some houses also tied down.
