The local gay community’s first ever march against Homophobia and Transphobia will be held in Suva tomrrow.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Survival Advocacy Network project officer Ranadi Ravudi said discrimination for most starts at an early age and they want to address these issues through awareness.
He said those who did not understand his sexual orientation when he was growing up also made several attempts to change him.
He said this indifferent environment leads to some in the gay community ending up on the streets as sex workers where they are also vulnerable to abuse and violence.
Ravudi said they are subjected to a lot of violence and abuse on the streets.
He said there are plans in the pipeline to work with law enforcement officers to address discrimination of all forms against those in this marginalized group.
The march will start at 5:30pm from the Flea Market to Sukuna Park.
