More work is needed in the area of housing for low income earners.
Housing Minister Colonel Samuela Saumatua said the ministry has achieved most of its focus in the area of housing for the poor for this year.
Last month during the Fiji Economic Update 2012, it was highlighted that in the past 20 years, Fiji has not been able to make any constructive situation to reduce the current housing problems being faced.
Also, the mass drift of people from rural to urban areas over the past two decades is the main reason there are housing issues in Fiji.
Saumatua added addressing housing for the poor is an ongoing issue.
This year, $1 million was allocated for improving squatter conditions in Caubati, Omkar, Jittu, Cuvu, Ledrusasa and Sasawira.
Between 2007-2011, government provided a total of $11 million to improve the living conditions of squatters in Dilio Street, Lakena Hill, Vatoa, Lakena Hill No.2, Badrau, Omkar and Caubati Central.
