Immigration investigates alleged human trafficking and forced prostitution
The Immigration Department is now investigating a major case in relation to alleged human trafficking and a prostitution ring.

Fijivillage was tipped off with the information that an informant contacted Immigration Director Major Nemani Vuniwaqa early this morning after speaking to an Asian woman who said that three Chinese women, including her have been forced into prostitution after they arrived into the country last Friday.

A raid was conducted at a Suva hotel earlier today.

Three Asian women and two Asian men were located in three different rooms.

As questioning started, another person was brought in.

He is a person who holds a Fijian passport.

Major Vuniwaqa said the women were promised work in Fiji and when they arrived here, their travel documents were taken by some individuals and their movements were controlled.
