Seriously Consider Positions-Interim PM

Seriously Consider Positions-Interim PM
Seriously consider your positions as statutory authorities and your roles as the guardians of the good governance and well being of the Fijian people.

These are the words of Interim Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama in response to statements made by some Provincial Councils about government policies, and in particular, Government's initiatives in the drawing up of the Charter for Building a Better Fiji and the restructuring of the GCC. He has stressed that Provincial Councils like other statutory bodies are required by law to implement Government policies and programmes.

He said provincial councils are required to receive Government's proposals about these changes and to refer them to the people in their provinces for their considerations and decisions.

Bainimarama said by deciding against the Charter process and the GCC Changes, the Provincial Councils are denying the flow of information and the right of Fijians to that information.

The Interim Prime Minister adds that if Provincial Council Members feel strongly about these matters and do not wish to see them implemented then they should resign.

Bainimarama said these consultative processes are being done in an open and transparent manner and the Provincial Councils should be a part of these important national initiatives.
