Rotuma Supports Proposed Charter
Chiefs of the island of Rotuma have declared their support for the proposed People's Charter.

At a meeting between the Rotuma Island Council and the government delegation led by Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama the islanders affirmed their full support for the proposed charter and in particular the principles of good governance, transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of wealth the proposed charter process is promoting.

Rotuma's acceptance of the proposed charter was conveyed to the Interim Prime Minister and his delegation by Ousted Assistant Minister and Fiji's former Ambassador to Australia and council member, Major General Jioji Konrote.

Major General Konrote said there is a real need for a system of good governance, among other things, to be put in place that will bring about greater peace and harmony among all the people in the country.

The Ousted Assistant Minister added that there is no way they can express their gratitude and appreciation for the government except to offer prayers, well wishes and active participation in moving the country forward.
