6 charged over alleged credit card scam
Six men charged with alleged fraud and visa credit scam after they were found with several fake visa cards are expected to appear in court tomorrow morning.

Police have confirmed to Village news that the six were charged earlier today by CID Officers in Nadi and remain in custody.

The six, including two local Chinese nationals, two from Hong Kong and two Malaysians are alleged to have used fake visa cards to purchase duty free items from outlets in Suva, Sigatoka and Nadi where they were arrested after intensive police investigations.

Police said that several other individuals are also believed to be involved in the alleged visa card racket and further arrests are expected to soon.

Meanwhile, more people are expected to be charged as police continue investigations into an alleged racket where bogus companies were set up and thousands of dollars in VAT returns claimed from FIRCA.

So far three people have been charged in relation to the alleged offence and Police confirm that they have identified others involved in the tax racket and will be arrested soon.

Some FIRCA staff has also been charged with fraud related offences and has been bailed to appear in court later.
