Fiji has second largest concentration of elderly people
Fiji has the second largest concentration of elderly people in the Pacific.

This was revealed by United Nations Population Fund Director and Pacific Representative Dirk Jena at the world population day celebrations over the weekend.

Jena said Population ageing is accelerating at a fast pace in many Pacific Island countries, adding that the elderly from the age 60 years and over in the pacific region is projected to increase from 367,000 in 2000 to 2.3 million by 2050.

Jena stressed that this matter needs to be looked at especially since it is likely to be more pronounced in rural areas due to migration.
