The Rewa Provincial Council has been given the green light by the government to hold its meeting again this year.
This council meetings were suspended since 2011 as some members of the council was continuing to push for the provincial council to oppose the People’s Charter and other government initiatives.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said he has asked the new chairman of Rewa Provincial Council Uraia Waibuta if the meeting could be shifted to May instead of August.
Commodore Bainimarama said this is to allow for developments to continue within the province.
He also said some villages have raised concern on the location of the Rewa Provincial Council Office as it is difficult for the people to access its services.
Commodore Bainimarama will discuss this issue with the new chairman of the council.
He said more than $28 million was spent in the province of Rewa from 2010 to 2013 for assistance in education, agriculture, fisheries, electrification, roads and social welfare.
