300 admitted at CWMH for asthma attacks
Around 300 people have been admitted to CWM Hospital from March to date due to severe asthma attacks.

Director Intensive Care Unit CWMH Dr Vereniki Raiwalui said this is a significant increase as previously the number of people being admitted for asthma and short breath was relatively low.

He said mostly teenagers and adults are being affected by asthma and they have been turning up at the hospital because of awareness being raised on the seriousness of the disease.

Raiwalui said some severe cases they attend to is due to people being continually exposed to harmful substances including smoke from cigarettes.
