To ensure a vibrant coconut industry exists in Koro, you must all work together.
These are the sentiments of Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the new Copra processing Plant in Nacamaki.
He said the Government will do all it can in terms of support but success will come if the villagers work together.
Bainimarama also highlighted that it was a known fact that the coconut farmers in Koro face a lot of difficulties especially when they have to transport their produce to the only processing plant, which was all the way in Savusavu.
He told the farmers that with the plant opening in their area, it will be easier for them, in terms of generating more income and it is up to them to ensure that the venture is a success.
Bose Ni Koro of Tuatua, Lepani Nacola said copra is the main income earner for the various villages in their area and said that in the past they were promised so much by previous Governments but never saw the fruits of their requests.
Nacola said it was past practice to sell the copra through a middleman where the villagers did not know how much their product cost or whether they were being tricked into selling their copra at very low prices.
