NGO FRIEND assists 300 families with temporary shelters
300 families affected by Tropical Cyclone Evan have been assisted with temporary shelters by NGO FRIEND.

Director Sashi Kiran said 156 homes were totally destroyed while the rest had their roofs blown off.

She said that the assistance provided has been made possible with AusAID’s help which provided $215,000 which has been used to purchase roofing iron and nails.

She said that the communities from Tavua to Sigatoka were assessed by FRIEND teams.

Kiran said that those whose homes were totally destroyed were provided with 18 sheets of roofing iron for roof and walls and those with total roof loss were provided with 6 sheets to cover a room to keep the family dry until they are assisted with more permanent assistance from other agencies.
