False Sodomy Claim Investigated

Police today confirmed that the man who claimed that he was allegedly kidnapped and sodomised by a group of soldiers a few weeks ago is now under investigation for giving false information to police.

Deputy Divisional Crime Officer Southern Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Keshri Lal has confirmed that the file has been forwarded to the Divisional Prosecuting Officer Southern's office for the charges to be filed in Court.

The man, who now lives in Narere, was taken in for questioning by police soon after he was interviewed on Fiji Television.

ASP Lal has also confirmed that this was the second time the man had made this type of false complaint. Last year he also claimed that he had been kidnapped and sodomised in Lautoka, however, upon police investigation it was established that his claims were false.

This matter is also with the Prosecutions division.
