11 families today could not hold back their emotions as they received special Diwali hampers from the Poor Relief Society.
Society President Sabita Gandhi said these families have no one to support them and they only survive on welfare assistance or the help given to them by others.
She said all the members receiving the assistance are aged between 55 to 96years with no source of income and have been abandoned by family.
54 year old Nirmala Devi who is partially blind while receiving her hamper shared that the festive time brings the most joy for people like them as they get bit more assistance which they can utilize for longer period of time.
These Families received their usual food rations worth $250 given by poor relief society monthly plus hampers worth $80 and some cash donations today at R.B. Patel Center point supermarket.
