A solar electric charging station was opened today at the University of the South Pacific Laucala campus to continue its use of renewable energy towards a greener and safer environment.
Head of School of Engineering and Physics Dr Atul Raturi said that the import of petroleum fuel is a big burden to the government and the transport industry uses about 40 percent of the total import.
Raturi added that the new charging station will open the doors for electric vehicles coming into the country.
The French government supported the project by donating two electric vehicles where the cost of the project itself is more than $40,000.
